mastering a master copy

Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to master a master copy file of a song that my friend did in another persons logic recording studio. She can not get the mixed version file back and what do I need to do to get volume and no distortion while cleaning up the master. I have added the eq, but when I bring up the track volume to match the original volume, it as it should distort. Please help// Lou T.

Most mastering studios use out borad gaer to do this.. like compressors and limiters to push the audio past 0db without clipping... you load a copy of this so we can hear it and help you out!!
